Written and illustrated by Muslims, this is a book for all children who celebrate Ramadan and those in the wider communities who want to understand why this is such a special experience for Muslims.

  • marker
  • scissors
  • fabric glue
  • yarn or ribbon
  • a sturdy hole punch,
  • felt in whatever colors you like
  • thin cardboard (like from a shoebox)
  • scented oil (essential oil or non-alcoholic perfume oil)

Use these links for some shape ideas Shape Book Patterns || Islamic Star Patterns || Public Domain clip art || Discovery School clip art. Reduce or enlarge the pattern before printing.
  2. Cut out the shape & use it to trace two copies from of felt.
  3. Glue one felt piece to either side of the cardboard. Add felt decorations
  4. Place about 2-4 drops of essential oil onto the felt.*
  5. Poke a hole in the top and thread with string or ribbon long enough to hang from the car mirror.

Hang your completed air freshener in the car, or a closet, the bathroom, kitchen, or place in a dresser drawer.

*Remember that essential oils are strong, so start with a few drops. Keep away from children. Add more oil after the freshener has been hanging for a while. Unless you have experience working with essential oils, stick with using one oil only.

Recommended Scents: If using essential oils, choose something floral (lavendar, jasmine, ylang-ylang), or earthy (sandalwood, frankincense, myrrh, balsam), or minty (tea tree, camphor). You may not want to use food-related scents such as apples or peaches during the day while you’re trying to fast.

Dunya-Akhira Printable

A very very quick note so that I don’t forget to share this valuable piece of advice with you.

My dear sister in Mecca told me that years ago she heard a khutbah wherein the khateeb advised the congregation to make a dunya wa akhirah list before laylatul qadr begins.

In it, he said that they should put anything they want in both dunya and akhirah and write it down.

He further explained, that laylatul qadr is definitely on one of the last ten nights of ramadan, and so make dua for your whole list every night of ramadan. If you do this, then everything you have asked for will be answered insha’Allah.

The dear sister did this and was shocked at it not only being answered, but the ways in which her duas were answered. SubhanALLAH!!  ~~ Read Umm Raiyaan Dunya-Akhira post at her blog!

Masha’Allah what a great idea! Use one of these Dunya-Akhirah List Sheets (pdf) to help you get started!
